Malzareth's Spear is not, in the strict sense, Kryor's. It is older than him. It belonged to a god, and gods do not lose their weapons in any of the ordinary ways. The spear is in Kryor's keeping by a route that the celestial accounts, when pressed, prefer not to summarise lightly.
On the day that a mere Archangel struck a god, Malzareth — humiliated, beaten, surrounded by the rest of the thirteen — made one last move. He hurled his spear at Kryor in pure spite, fast enough and sharp enough to kill almost anything beneath the rank of a god. Kryor evaded it. The throw failed. The spear has been in his possession ever since.
It is not his primary weapon. He does not draw it in the line of common work. He carries it because it is something stranger than a weapon — a relic. A receipt. The legendary spear of Malzareth, the Fallen God, kept by the Archangel who survived its throw and is, by that survival, the only being in creation with any standing to hold it. As long as it remains in Kryor's hand, the bend in the rules that day is not undone, and Malzareth, in his shadow, remembers it.
