Reythen is the angel of Dremenus's twelve who keeps the celestial-essence ledger of Accora. He is one of three angels permitted to write in the order's small ledgers; he is the only one who keeps the essence ledger. Dremenus consults him before any irrevocable act. The chronicler's nameless cataloguing angel — POV of the long account of Azrath Voidborne's death — is not Reythen; he is a colleague, who keeps a separate ledger of worlds Dremenus has chosen to watch.

Reythen stationed an attending angel at Azrath's fortress on Kolonoth, quietly, for the better part of a month before the arrow was drawn. It was Reythen's account of the warlock's tea — the way Azrath drank the cooling cup at his desk on the morning he interrogated two corpses in a single working — that the chronicler has preserved as the most finished motion in the room. The account, he later said, was the moment he understood that Azrath had crossed the line his ledger had been waiting for.

Reythen has not spoken in the council scenes the chronicle has so far given. He keeps the ledger. The ledger speaks for him.
