Vehrun was the third of the three. Phaeren went in third on the morning the fortress was reached, and what Phaeren found at his master's side was Vehrun in the same condition Suren and Iliach had been left in. The order's account does not give Vehrun a different role than the other two. The three were a unit. The unit was not given a name in the chronicle's account; the chronicle calls them, in plain attribution, the three.

What Vehrun was, before, the chronicle does not record. The order has not, in the chronicle's record, permitted the writing-down of the three's individual qualities. The reason is not censorship. The reason is grief: the order had not yet learned, by Drexel's working, that an angel could be made into a state for which neither the order nor its archangel had a vocabulary, and the order had decided, in lieu of vocabulary, to keep the three's names but withhold the rest of them. The names are themselves the keeping. Suren. Iliach. Vehrun.

Vehrun is the one of the three Phaeren has, in his private accounts, found himself returning to most often. Phaeren has not explained why. The chronicler suspects Phaeren had served the longest beside Vehrun. The chronicler does not press.
